Where this profile sits

Duration is how long the valve stays open, measured in crank degrees; lift is how far it opens. As a general rule, more duration moves the powerband further up the rev range — more at the top, less at the bottom, and a rougher idle. More lift moves air sooner without necessarily widening the window.

Which means the right profile is not the biggest one. It is the one matched to your turbo or induction setup, your fuel, your injectors, your ECU and the rpm you actually intend to run to. A long-duration cam on a setup that cannot fill it is slower than a shorter one. Tell us those four things and we will tell you whether this profile suits your build — or whether your combination does not need new cams at all.

Valve springs

Check your springs before you order. Kelford's own guidance is that the correct valve spring depends on the installed height in your particular cylinder heads, so it is not one-size-fits-all. We stock Kelford spring kits and can confirm the right set for this profile and your heads.

Clearancing and fitting

We install Kelford cams and do valve-to-piston and retainer-to-seal clearancing in-house at our Red Deer, Alberta shop. It matters most on higher-lift profiles, and on engines with a decked block, shaved heads or a stroker crank. If you are supplying your own short block or heads, talk to us before ordering so the clearances are checked against the parts you actually have.
